Symphony of the Sojourn

A ramshackle alliance of rogues and wizards, soldiers and revolutionaries managed to change the destiny of the Sojourn Sea, an archipelago that every nation of the Old World hopes to control. One problem: no one but them knows what actually happened. A brief window has opened: the adventurers have all assembled together to weave together their own narratives in an effort to recount the heroic journey they experienced. No two tales are alike, but they are filled with swashbuckling, magic, hope, loss, and revelation.

Each story is a piece in the grand puzzle that tipped the balance of power around the world.

Like fantasy? Like adventure? Like role playing games? Then you’re gonna like my novel.

Who am I?

Good question.

It can be a tough one to even start answering. Here’s the basics: I live in Sacramento, California with my wife of nearly eight years and two adorable French bulldogs. I started transitioning in 2021 at the age of 29. Bit of a late bloomer? You betcha.

My day job right now is as a master’s level student at Northwestern University for mental health counseling. Does that expertise find its way into my writing? You betcha.

Before that, I earned degrees from UC Berkeley in Public Health and Education. I started a company that helped high schoolers get to college, which paid the bills for a while. Of course, a lot of life happened in between all of that. A little scattered? You betcha.

Lastly, I dedicate far too much of my time to my Dungeons and Dragons group where I am entrenched as the forever-DM. I wouldn’t have it any other way; frankly, it’s what inspired Symphony.

I think it’s the eclectic life which leads to interesting writing.

I’m not biased.

Promise.

The Sojourn Sea

is more than the setting of a novel. It is a living, breathing world that has been lovingly crafted for a Dungeons and Dragons adventure. A seemingly remote archipelago, the Sojourn has captivated every great empire in the world, from the imperial majesty of King Ludo III and Aerondyne to the military might of Mozertz. It is from this fertile foundation that the Symphony of the Sojourn was born.

My First Novel:
Under Tokyo Umbrellas

A melancholy meditation on early adulthood set in the backdrop of Tokyo, Japan. I wrote this book while still in the closet and was originally published under my dead name in 2020. I believe it exudes so much of the confusion, frustration, and downright anger that is all too common to trans folks who haven’t accepted who they are. If you have any interest in learning more about how my writing has evolved as I’ve grown as a gender-conscious person, I encourage you to take a look at the re-released version of Under Tokyo Umbrellas.
